Beautiful condominium-like suites set high amidst the trees are lovely retreats for traveling families at Carmel Valley Ranch.

This four-star California-ranch style resort maintains a large staff and most of its guests flock here for total rest and leisure. Set on 1700 acres of gorgeous rolling hills in the heart of Carmel Valley, the resort boasts an impressive natural setting replete with beds of petunias, zinnias, geraniums, begonias, and lovely oak trees lining the walkways. Guests enjoy their meals at the resort's fine-dining restaurant, The Oaks, or the more casual Club Grill, which overlooks the golf course. Lighter fare can be found at the Ranch House Cafe and Juice Bar.

Baby/Child Friendliness:

  • Very spacious rooms that comfortably allow for cribs and other baby paraphernalia.
  • Cribs, high chairs, and baby-sitting services available.
  • In-room refrigerators for storing formula and other perishable items.
  • Large, private decks for cuddling a baby or sitting with a youngster.
  • Pathways and bridges leading to rooms are stroller-accessible. I did not find stairs on the pathways, which are awkward for stroller-pushing.
  • Children's menu with healthful offerings.
  • Hiking, bicycles, and horse-back riding available for families and young children.
  • Abundant wildlife; rampant deer on the property which is interesting for children.
  • Picnic lunches available through the kitchen. A family can enjoy the meadows, vistas, and tranquil environment the property offers while savoring a picnic lunch with the children.
  • Well-insulated rooms offer privacy when the babies cry.
  • In-room CD player and radio create a relaxing environment for the baby.
  • Large, comfortable chairs and ottoman with the suites, convenient for holding baby or reading to a young child.
  • Extra large pillows found on bed and furniture also make holding babies easier.
  • Laundry services available, a life-saver when traveling with youngsters.

The resort's playground allows little ones to play and romp amidst the colorful gardens.

Romance:

The Carmel Valley location of this resort carries with it the same appeal described for the Quail Lodge Resort and Golf Club. Carmel Valley, with its lush vistas, majestic oaks, and rolling green hills exudes a mystically romantic air quite distinct from that of Carmel itself. The Carmel Valley Ranch Resort is situated deep in the heart of this lovely valley. Also of romantic interest:

  • Private suites with secluded decks. No neighbors can see your happenings on the deck. The decks also offer amazing views of the quiet, luxurious valley.
  • Wood-burning fireplaces within the suite.
  • Fluffy robes.
  • Grand, comfortable beds.
  • In-room mini bar, hot water, and coffee maker.
  • Roomy, well-lit bathrooms with separated tub and shower. Oversized tub makes a bubble-bath seem very enticing.
  • Secluded ambiance of the resort makes romance-seekers feel truly alone and undisturbed. A unique quietude can be found within the rooms throughout the resort.
  • Spa packages available to promote romance, including the three-night "Ranch Romance" package. This package consists of a one-bedroom, king suite; daily breakfast at The Oaks or room-service; champagne and flowers upon arrival; dinner for two at The Oaks; a couples' massage for two; and use of the resort's spa and fitness center. The price of this package varies seasonally, peaking at $1575.00 in July-October.
